Central Kenya’s very own Strongman Kennedy Stephen Mwangi has been recognised for his hard work and determination in the gym and recent performance at Kenya’s Strongman competition by the Tujiamini Initiative.

The Tujiamini initiative by SportPesa managed in partnership with DBA Africa is awarding and empowering Kenya’s most talented. The month of April saw Central regions most talented rewarded, with Ken Mwangi being a recipient rewarded for countless hours in the gym.

Kennedy a former talented rugby player, renowned for his strength both on the field and in gym began his love for lifting heavy items back in 2011. Playing for Nakuru RFC from Ken suffered a career ending injury after attempting to squat 200kg. Diagnosed with a sciatica condition, Ken knew his playing days were over. He even admits he thought his days of lifting weights were over.

Fast-forward to 2023, when Ken registered his name in the2023 Kenya’s Strongest man competition. The strongman competition held at Uhuru Park in December, 2023 saw a battle of Kenya’s biggest and strongest competing for the esteemed title as Kenya’s best.

The grueling competition sees athletes compete across and array of exciting feats of strength, including one-rep max squat, deadlift for reps, a framers walk, lorry carry, and a Viking press to name a few. At his first Strongman contest, Ken was able to finish 7th a formidable achievement considering the level of competition that includes high profile strongmen such as Chris Oketch and Stephen Wamalwa who are both capable of squatting a whooping 340kg.

Ken has the ambition to conquer Chris and Stephen record and challenge them for the Title of Kenya’s strongest man in the coming years. Tujiamini is here to help him turn these dreams into reality.

Mwangi managed a 260kg – squat, as well as registering 7reps of 270kg deadlift on his first time competing at the event, lets hope that with the additional support from Tujiamini Kennedys attempt can see him mix it with the title contenders and push for higher honors.

As part of Kens prize, Tujiamini will be awarding him withKSh10,000 worth of gym equipment and supplements to help him turn his dreams into reality.
