Dominic Koech has been crowned a Silver winner of SportPesa’s Tujiamini Community Initiative, receiving KES 100,000 to strengthen his work in fine art and decorative painting while nurturing young creative talent in Nakuru County.

For Dominic, art is more than a skill — it is a voice, a livelihood, and a bridge to opportunity.

A gifted artist specialising in fine art and decorative techniques, Dominic’s journey has been shaped by both passion and perseverance. Like many creatives, he has faced financial barriers, particularly the high cost of professional tools. Yet his belief in his talent and his vision for growth kept him moving forward.

“It’s the dream of growing in my talent that has kept my spirit firm,” Dominic says. “I am proud of what I do, and that belief has helped me not give up.”

Beyond his personal practice, Dominic is deeply committed to uplifting others through creativity. He mentors aspiring artists within his community, offering informal training to young people who demonstrate passion and discipline. Through these sessions, he helps them build confidence, refine their skills, and see art as a viable path forward.

His impact extends further into the creative space through music arts, where he supports young people interested in learning musical instruments, broadening their creative expression and opportunities.

“Art is a way of expressing feelings and attitudes,” he explains. “It has helped me connect with people from different professions and continue learning every day.”

Dominic first learned about SportPesa’s Tujiamini initiative through Taach FM, a vernacular radio station. Though initially uncertain, he chose to take a chance and apply — a decision that would soon redefine his journey.

“At first, I doubted myself,” he recalls. “But when I confirmed that Tujiamini was real, it changed how I see myself and the decisions I make.”

Winning the KES 100,000 Tujiamini Silver Award marked a major turning point. Dominic used the funds to acquire essential art tools and formally begin offering fine and general art classes, enabling him to enhance the quality of his work while expanding opportunities for young creatives in his community.

“This support has helped me improve my talent and nurture young talents,” he says. “It has made a real difference, not just for me, but for those I work with.”

Reflecting on the programme, Dominic describes Tujiamini as a catalyst for confidence and clarity.

“Tujiamini has paved my way to success — for myself and for my community.”

Looking ahead, Dominic envisions building a sustainable creative enterprise that continues to mentor, inspire, and produce the next generation of artists — proof that talent, when supported, can transform lives.

Through SportPesa’s Tujiamini initiative, stories like Dominic Koech’s continue to emerge — stories of resilience, belief, and the power of opportunity to sketch brighter futures.
